Carrying Burdens
In this series of paintings I explore the idea of carrying a psychological burden and the process of striving to free oneself of this burden. Set in scenes that are realms from my imagination, the burden of being a transgender person constitutes the primary experience I represent in these paintings, though they are also open to universal interpretation.

In this series of paintings and hanging paper banners, Tracy Kostenbader juxtaposes strong figure-ground pairings. Presenting an interplay between large kitchen utensils and words that explore contrasting emotional states and feelings of regret and abdication, as well as agency and activism.
