This group exhibition investigates the intricate layers of women’s experiences through a broad spectrum of artistic practices, offering an immersive exploration of labor, identity and creativity. It foregrounds the contributions of cisgender, genderfluid, and other identifying women, reframing unseen or undervalued labor as both art and an act of resistance.
Through an innovative range of media the exhibit interrogates the tensions between visibility an invisibility, the personal and the collective, and the labor of care versus the labor of survival. The works challenge conventional notions of representation, offering nuanced perspectives on the intersection of identity, artistic expression, and societal expectations.
Central to this exhibition is an exploration of the diverse forms of women’s labor—domestic, emotional, and communal—that often go unacknowledged. These reflect on how women’s contributions sustain communities, disrupt cultural norms, and rewrite gendered narratives in art and society. By amplifying these narratives, the exhibition seeks to foster dialogue, spark critical discourse, and shift perceptions within the art world.
The exhibition also included this event:
ART PARTY / MEET THE ARTISTS :: February 1 / 6:00 – 9:00 pm The interactive workshop: "Slap Its: Labor of Love vs. the Labor of Need" offered the opportunity for participants to design stickers and share thoughts on the exhibit’s themes. While in discussion the community creates a collective installation on the exhibit’s sticker wall—a collaborative tapestry of perspectives on labor and identity.
